Friday Fill In - June 27, 2008

I've seen these done alot on various blogs, and think it's kool, so I've decided to start posting it as weekly feature:

As posted on Janet's Blog, here are this weeks random fill in's......

1. Birthdays are great as kids, but unnessessary as adults (unless I can figure out a way to get YOUNGER each birthday)
2. Fall is my favorite season because of the memories from childhood: Back-to-School, Marching Band, Footbal Games, Halloween, Hay Rides and Apple Picking!
3. I feel my best when I have blue sky and sunshine above my head, warm sand under my feet and sunglasses on my eyes to look out over a tropical paradise.
4. Sushi is my favorite food!
5. First impressions are what made me fall in love with my DH.
6. The best piece of advice I ever received was "the only person you can TRULY count on is yourself". I was told this by my college philosophy professor and I've never forgotten it.
7. And as for the weekend I need to get the house cleaned so, tonight I’m looking forward to getting the laundry done and getting my tea stash inventoried, tomorrow my plans include a trip to the post office and the LYS and then vacumming the house and cleaning the linen closet out, then Sunday, I want to finish cleaning and take a nap! I think I'll need it after the weekend....

SP 12 question of the week - 06.25.08

This week's question:

What would you consider the perfect amount of stash?

GOSH, what a tough question to answer........you can NEVER have too much stash, can you? I would have to guess that for me, 200-300 different yarns would be enough. But then I would always want more, so if money were no object, I would just buy until I ran out of room. "Honey, we need a bigger house for my yarn......."

Some mid-week YARN love !!

I received my package today from my Summer of Yarn Love spoiler......how exciting!! Since this is a secret swap, all that I can tell you is I *think* she's from the Southwest......but I'm not sure.

When I opened it, here's what I found:

Such lovely goodies!

Stuff to keep me "yarn-ing"-a copy of Interweave Crochet magazine & two skeins of DMC Senso Metallics in a pretty copper color

Stuff to keep my busy-a cute book of Cats (very cute pictures and the funniest captions), some pretty beach-themed scrapbook stickers, a project notebook (which is TOO cool), and a set of stitchmarkers made of a lovely pearlized lavender hearts....PRETTY

Stuff to keep me smelling pretty and fed well-a bottle of Sea Island Cotton lotion from Bath&Body Works, a package of Gingerbread Spice tea, and a HUMUNGO bag of M&M's.......YUMM! I am just LOVING my SOYL spoiler !!!

I also received two pairs of bamboo DPN's from Joan on Ravelry.......I traded her some yarn for the DPN's so we both made out with what we wanted! YAY!

In other news, I am now a volunteer moderator on the Cuppa Tea?? board on Ravelry.......my way of helping out and giving back! I also had a status meeting with my manager at work, and the feedback I received was VERY positive. It appears that my positive thinking and effort has made a difference. FINALLY, some good news!

My parents and nephew are off to Walt Disney World a week from today......lucky DUCKS! And my mom is going again in December with her siblings (my aunt & uncle) ......SNIFF, SNIFF. If things go well and I can get all of our debts in check.....loans paid off, etc. then DH has agreed to a trip next fall.......to coincide with our anniversary. So that's my goal, as I need my DISNEY-fix!

Stitches East registration came.......and went. I don't think I am ready yet for classes, especially since I still consider myself a knitting novice. I am planning to go to Market one of the days, so I will at least get that experience. Maybe, if the economy turns around, I might consider Stitches West 2009 ?? Hmmm......any thoughts from cyberland?

A week of migrane's and mahem......and a few gifts thrown in too!

WOW......thank god this week is over! It was surely one for the record books. I suffered for most of the week with a killer migrane---I ended up out from work for a day and a half......the bright light just did me in. At one point, I had blankets up over the windows to block out the light. But, all is well now.

Thursday at work, it was announced that they had made the job offer for our department's empty spot to a girl in Core C/S......which is great, as she's super nice and I think will be a great fit for the department. I'm no longer the "newbie", so I'm hoping that her arrival will take some the of "attention" off of me, so that I get finally get into my own rythym with things....we shall see. The reason that I mention it is that I think her arrival may "upset the apple cart" with some of the other department members. On the surface, they're fine with it, but it's the undercurrent rumblings that I've been hearing that make me think that there will be some departmental shakeups in the future. All I know is.......head DOWN and focus!!

I did receive two lovely packages this past week. One was from my SP12 swap partner......it wasn't my "official package", as I was told, but just a little howdy from her to kick off my summer. It was a bag of gummy fruit slices candy (my favorites) and a copy of "The Friday Night Knitting Club" which I've been wanting to read. YAY for me !!

I also received a lovely box from my Iced Tea Summer Solstice swap partner--dyelady (also known as Meghan) sent me the most awesome box of goodies: three skeins of Sinfonia cotton (Matizado Azules, Azul Rey and Marino); a pattern book-Accessories Options which is a book of shrugsm scarves and stoles; three kinds of loose tea-Vanilla, Peach and Tropicana (which smells FAB !!); a handcast mug; a summer read-No Nest for the Wicket, which I think is a mystery surrounding the game of Croquet (what Meghan doesn’t know is that I used to spend my summers playing croquet with my grandfather—nobody outside of my family knows that……FREAKY !!); two bright colors of polish for my summer pedicures-Glam and It’s SO U, and finally……two skeins of hand-sheared, hand spun & hand dyed Alpaca…….I almost hyperventilated! It’s so soft--a pretty green-gold shade…..it reminds me of the marsh tide pools in the summer, so I’m naming the color “Summer Tidal Marsh”

I also received a skein & a half of Frog Tree Alpaca yarn from the Karma Yarn thread on Ravelry........I have dyed and gone to heaven.......this stuff is so lucious to the touch......I must MAKE something now!

SP 12 Question of the Week - 06.18.08

This week's question:

As a kid, what did you look forward to most about summer vacation/break/holiday?

As a kid, I spent the summer's at my grandparents.......since both of my parent's worked, it was easier during break from school. We would spend weeks at my family's beach house, and then come home to my grandparent's local house to do things like shopping, laundry, etc. and then we'd be back to the beach. It was at the beach that I learned to drive a boat, water-ski, and caught my first fish. Once I got into Jr. High I was involved in stuff like marching band, so we would go to the beach every weekend, so that I'd be home during the week for band practice. But I sure do miss my summer's at the beach!

This week's question is:

Well, if we're talking "adult" beverage, it would be MOJITO's......I just love me some mojito's! If its non-alchoholic, then I enjoy a glass of COLD iced-tea....any flavor. I also enjoy ICED-COLD water....it's very refreshing!

Hotter than Hades.....Part Deux

OMG, I got up this morning to get ready for work, and at 6:30am, it was already 78 degrees. By the time I left @ 8:30 it was 86 degrees. I could barely breathe when I went outside, it was so humid. This is a problem for me, with my health issues---that, and the fact that my car's air conditioner needs repair, does NOT bode well.

Work was steady.....so far the economy has not affected my job, but who's to know what will happen. It's not as if I work for a company the sells a product of "necessity". Let's hope the economy doesn't crash and BURN (like it appears to be doing......)

I picked up some clothes on sale tonight--a couple of tanks, a pair of capri's, two lightweight cardigan's (so that I can wear the tanks to work), and a cute pair of summer lounge pj's. When I got home, I had a lovely package from skeinqueen7 on Ravelry. She sent me a lovely skein of dkKnits Technicolor Dream Toes sock yarn in French Roast. I traded it with her for my Ravelry tee shirt, which I bought and didn't like the cut of. So we both got what we wanted in the end!

We're having some heat relief tonight with some wicked thunderstorms, so I should get this posted before we lose power.

Hotter than Hades......

That's what my gram always would say when it got to hot out. Gotta love my gram....she was right ON this weekend! UGh......it's only June.....it's not supposed to get this hot THIS early in the summer. This weekend has been brutal.......gosh I wish I was in the Arctic Circle right now, or at least some place that was a little cooler! Other than the errands I ran early Saturday, I spent the ENTIRE weekend in the house.......air conditioning......it's a LOVELY thing!
I spent today updating my Ravelry Stash......I have been so absentee about keeping this up, but I finally got everything cataloged, photographed and added. Here's a picture of EVERYTHING that I had to add today:

I also added pic's of all of the cute stitch markers I've been collecting lately:

I've been contacted this weekend by BOTH of my new swap partners, so I am trying to keep both my Etsy and Amazon wish list up to date. I also signed up for the Four Seasons swaps on Ravelry.....I missed SPRING, but I got in for Summer, Autumn and Winter !! I just love my swaps.....they are SO MUCH fun!!
I *have* to schedule myself some knitting time this week.....it seems like ages since I picked up my needles. Maybe I will finally cast-on my fingerless gloves, so that I can work on them this Saturday for WWKIP day.

Back to work tomorrow.....we lost our senior consultant last week to a promotion to our Marketing department, so we'll be down a person. She was a great ally to me in the department. I'm REALLY gonna miss her, although she's just one floor up. I'll just be keepin' my head low, and dodging those bullets (from my superiors....)

Almost time for bed, so I'll be signin' off for now......

An "ODE" to good intentions.......

My intentions this weekend were to clean the bedroom storage and closet. I've got stuff to purge and get rid of......quilting fabric, old clothes, purses, etc. I've also gotta dig out all of my summer sandals and put my winter shoes in storage. All of this would have meant manual labor for me. Did I do it??

Heck NO......I played on the computer, took a nap, and watched tv.

I am a slug..... "hi, nice to meet you. I'm Donna, the SLOTH...."

I'm gonna blame my lack of effort on the heat.....we had some wicked weather here yesterday, and were under a tornado watch for most of the afternoon. The dog was not thrilled! The cats, on the other hand, slept right through it all.......note to self, in next life.....come back as a house cat.

DH put the air conditioners in today.....ah, cool as a cucumber I am now! I will sleep like an angel tonight!

BTW, I did get some of my chores done......but alas, I still have a TON of yarn stash to photograph, so maybe I can do that this week. Or at least I have "intentions" to do it.......

C-YA !
